Barah-Masa means narration of happenings in the 12 months of the year. This painting is a visual portrayal of the experience that the woman in the village is going through the whole year month by month as the seasons change but her unmindful husband hasn’t come to take her with him. The inspiration came from a popular Awadhi language classical song in Raag Mishra Peelu, titled Barah-Masa, sung by classical singer Ms. Rindana Rahasya in a gathering of music lovers in Pune. Shubha Mudgal has also sung this song. Names of the 12 Hindu calendar months - Chaitra to Falgun - and the woman’s narration are written in text alongside.
